Blue, run, moon, day, aid, love, good, garage, bold, enemy, bicycle, noon, moon, loud, crowded, artery, coat, ice, warm, laughing
On a blue October day, I saw him run past me as I ate my lunch in the city park. Although it was noon, a pale moon was visible in the sky, apparently reluctant to hide from the sun this day. The man, stopped and I wondered if he was in need of aid. He was gasping for his breath.
As I watched a woman came and sat beside him at a table, perhaps she was his lady love, I don’t know. At any rate it was good to know that if he was in need of help there was someone to assist him.
As I sat there I heard her asking the man if he’d cleaned out the garage before he went for his run. I thought that was a bold and inappropriate thing to be dwelling on when the man seemed to be ill. Was she his friend or his enemy?
I noticed that the bicycle she had been riding reflected red flames in the noon sunlight. Again I looked at the pale moon above, trying to shut out the loud tones of the woman’s strident voice.
To my right, the crowded street was stifled with traffic like a clogged artery. I pulled my coat around me, ice settling in my veins. Across at the other table, I saw that the man and woman were warm and laughing now.
Perhaps it had only been a little tiff between long time partners, aired and settled in the cool sunshine. I nodded my head satisfied that all was well and went back to my office, lunch break over.
