I belong to a writing group and we were assigned to use pre-arranged first lines as a springboard to writing a poem. Many people in the group had never written a poem and hoped never to have to. Some even wrote poems about not wanting to write a poem...however, it was one of the most fun, most entertaining of our meetings. Since the poems were short compared to a short story or article, we were able to read two or three pieces each, even though it was a large group.
We never laughed more, learned more, or gained more insight than we did with this exercise.
I do write poetry as a means to get an idea down quickly. I'm not a perfectionist regarding it and dislike worrying about meter and all that stuff. I like to rhyme but realize that rhyming isn't in these days...still I can't resist sometimes.
Soon I'll be at my new website writing a blog and I hope you will follow me to that site. Happy rhyming everyone.

It was one of the more fun meetings, wasn't it? I was surprised by that, and though I'm terrible at poetry at least now I won't avoid it like a fatal disease.
