A 15 minute writing from prompt given by a friend

The little Boy who ran away

He hadn’t planned to run away, the sudden desire had overtaken him all at once and he found himself with a bundle of clothes, five dollars and a set of feet that were getting sore. Why’d they have to listen to his brother Joe anyway? Why’d Joe always have to go and tattle to their parents? Why did Tom always end up in trouble when he did?
All he’d done was to catch the cat by the tail as it ran by him. He wanted to play with Tabby but Tabby had other ideas and so the cat had tried to get away. Tom had held on and the cat had squirmed and struggled, had bit and hissed and as a result the dishes on the table had fallen and crashed into a lot of mangled china with water and Kool aid running all over his mother’s new table cloth. Of course Joe had run off to tell, and Tom had run to his room, grabbed money, clothes, and ran out the door.
Tom rubbed his belly which was getting sick from the sun, the walking, and from having no food. He was even thirsty. What was he going to eat? Where could he get a drink of water?
Looking up, he saw that he’d reached the center of Waverly. Gee he really had walked a long way. Tom found a big tree near a big stone building. The stone seemed to hold coolness in its depths and it felt better here. Tom settled down to think about what to do next. Bees hummed, the traffic was muted here and the next thing Tom knew he was waking up from a sleep he hadn’t expected.
Someone was pulling at his arm. Tom opened his eyes to see a policeman staring down at him. He didn’t know whether to try to run or to go to with the policeman who was supposed to be his friend, wasn’t he?
“Come along with me son,” the officer said and with out saying anything, Tom got up and went with the man.
They ended up at the police station where Tom saw his parents with mixed emotions. Was he still in trouble? However, they seemed to be glad to see him and Tom gladly fell into their arms amid his mother’s tears and his father’s sniffles. Looking over he saw Joe who was being ignored in the emotional reunion.
Just the way it should be; that’ll teach him to tattle.
Tom smiled at Joe who stuck out his tongue in response. Then he heard his mother say,
“There is a matter we need to discuss when we get home.”
Tom realized that worrying your parents might cause them to show their love more than usual, but there is still a consequence for your actions. He looked at Joe who smirked in return.
