Well I see I just duplicated my work. I'd been meaning to post something I'd written about old time survival on this blog so I did that this morning. Turns out I'd already done that so now I've duplicated my efforts! Well, better to do it twice than not at all perhaps.
There's a lot I didn't mention about survival. A friend of mine who was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and designer clothing on her back recently had a downturn in her fortunes. After a period of no money she came back to where she had some, but not a lot, and learned the meaning of thrift. Now she's the biggest advocate of thrift stores and yard sales that I know.
She says that she will never spend money on new designer clothes again. However, if she finds them for a reasonable price at a yard sale that is different.
I tend to keep too many things because I won't throw away something that is useful. I will give it away if someone needs it, donate it to a thrift store, or perhaps sell it at a yard sale but I won't throw it in the trash. Sometimes it ends up just sitting there until I can find time to do one of these things and creates clutter. Still, you never know when you'll find a use for a given thing...
If things continue on the path we have set, we'd better dust off these ideas and recyclables and put them to use.
