How songs influence us

Yesterday I was running errands with a friend when it occurred to me that I really had to move fast or I'd be late for a lunch date. I urged my friend to wrap up her shopping and went to the checkout counter myself, paid, and headed toward my car, while she trailed behind.

As I walked out the door I realized I was humming:

"Nobody's gonna slow me down, oh no,
I got to keep on movin'
No body's gonna break my stride, oh no
I got to keep on movin"

My unconscious mind had picked those lyrics as appropriate to what I was thinking and feeling at the time. Why is this important? It shows how important words are to us whether used in songs, poems, novels, or in conversation. Phrases we've heard provide an unnoticed backdrop to everything we do.
