My Vision/ My Mission

In one of my writing groups I was told to write a vision statement regarding my writing career and to write a mission statement as well. I'm not sure how these are different and I've had a hard time figuring out how to do this.

I think my vision for my writing is that I perfect my craft so it is entertaining, easy to read, exciting to contemplate, and as error free as possible. I'd like to see my novels take on historical significance in the small towns where they are set; the story, like a legend to be handed down to new generations in those communities.

My Mission as a writer? That is to succeed in gathering a following of people who enjoy what I write, with whom I can share my stories, and who are entertained by them. I guess success is also measured in a financial way although I don't personally know any writers who can quit their day job. So if my mission is to be sucessful, my books should generate a small income.

As you can see, it is not my thing to define these ambitions.
